SFDS Weekly Update #36- 6/5/23

Dear Academy Families,

This Sunday, Blessed Trinity Parish celebrates their feast day. Holy Trinity Sunday is an essential day in the Christian calendar where believers celebrate and reflect on the concept of the Holy Trinity. The Holy Trinity refers to the belief that there is one God who exists in three persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit.

On this Sunday, Christians take time to think about and appreciate the nature of God, who is both one and three. It helps them understand that God is a loving community, and it encourages them to live in love and unity with one another. Holy Trinity Sunday reminds believers that they encounter God as a triune being, encouraging them to grow in their relationship with God and one another.

Happy Feast Day!

Thanks to all who came to the Art Show this Wednesday. What amazing artists we have! Our students were so proud to show their families their beautiful artwork that was on display at our annual Art Show. Once again, a very special thank you to Mrs. Fitzgerald and Mrs. Todd for all of their hard work.

Onto to some important updates for our school for the last few weeks of the school year.

Science State Exam: On Monday, June 5th, Grade 8 will be taking the written New York State Science exam. We encourage each child to eat a healthy breakfast and get a good night’s sleep the night before.

Early Childhood Information Nights: On Monday, June 5th, at 6 pm, we will host a Pre-K information night.  On Wednesday, June 7th at 6 pm, we invite our incoming Kindergarten parents to join us for the Kindergarten Information Night. On Monday, June 12th at 6 pm, we will be hosting a Nursery information night. On these evenings, the early childhood teachers will be sharing all the details of what is in store for children who are entering their early childhood years. Parents will be receiving supply lists and summer ideas during this meeting. We hope to see everyone there.

Spring Concert: Members of the Paul Effman Band, please save the date! Tuesday, June 6th at 7 pm is our annual St Francis de Sales School Band Spring Concert. This will take place in the school gym.

1/2 Day Dismissal: Friday, June 9th is a half-day. Please remember that dismissal is at 12 pm and that there is no after-school program on half days.

8th Grade Graduation Mass: On Friday, June 9th, the 8th grade will kick off their graduation exercises with a Mass of Thanksgiving at 6 pm, followed by their Dinner Dance.  A separate email was sent to 8th-grade families with all the final details as well.  Please feel free to be in touch with any questions.

Beach Parties: As we come to the home stretch of the end of the year we have our end-of-the-year beach parties to celebrate the close of another year of learning. This week Grade 1 and Grade 4 have their Beach Parties. Please follow the directives that the classroom teacher and class parents gave out in earlier correspondences. Please note that we are monitoring the beach construction for these beach parties and know that we may have to move them into the schoolyard if the city of New York changes plans.

Class Placement: Myself, Mrs. Hayes, and our faculty work diligently to make sure each and every child is placed with a teacher that best fits their needs. No matter which class your child is placed in, they are in supremely good hands. Every one of our teachers is intelligent, loving, and hardworking. As stated each year before, we cannot take requests for class placement. Writing emails or making phone calls to request a specific class all receive the same response: we cannot honor any requests for placement and that your child will be in excellent hands wherever they are placed. We thank you for your cooperation.

Special Lunches Coming to an End: Monday, June 5th is the last bagel day for Grades K-8. Thursday, June 8th is the last Pizza Day for K-4, and Friday, June 16th will be the last Pizza Day for Grades 5-6. We look forward to continuing our Bagel Mondays and our Pizza Thursdays/Fridays, along with our monthly chicken finger days next school year. Stay tuned this summer for more information.
