SFDS Weekly Update #22- 2/9/23

Dear Academy Families,

Here's what you need to know about the last week before Winter Recess!

This week in a special way, we celebrate Catholic education within the Diocese of Brooklyn and especially here at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy.  As we celebrate Catholic Schools Week, let us remember how important our work is to the Mission of the Catholic Church in educating children. Students here at St. Francis de Sales are part of the 2 million students in the United States who are currently attending Catholic schools. The education they receive builds on a tradition of academic excellence older than the United States itself, dating back nearly four centuries.

This year Catholic Schools once again get the opportunity to celebrate that Catholic Academies and Parish Schools are unparalleled in igniting the Catholic Imagination. It is fitting that the foundation of Catholic education will not only be celebrated but strengthened as we continue to move through the 2022-2023 school year.

Please click the link below for the final schedule for this year’s Catholic School Week.

Catholic Schools Week Schedule

Please make note of the different dress-down days and different events that we are hosting for each grade level after school. We especially hope to see many of our students in dress uniforms with their families this Sunday for our opening Catholic Schools Week Mass on Sunday 2/13 at 10 am at St. Edmund’s (Blessed Trinity) and at St. Francis de Sales. Let’s make this the best Catholic Schools Week ever!

Please note that the Academy Family Association will be selling new items from our Spirit Wear collection at all Blue and Gold events on Thursday 2/16 and Friday 2/17.  Parents of the Class of 2023 will be at all Blue and Gold Events selling raffles for their annual $1000 Cash Raffle. All proceeds will go to benefit the 8th Grade Dinner Dance (see below).

As we begin Catholic Schools Week, I am very proud to be in the company of a stellar faculty and staff and the best kids in the world. Have a Happy Catholic Schools Week!

Onto the rest of the week here at the Academy….

Mid-Winter Recess: Just a reminder that from February 20th-February 24th St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy will be closed for Mid-Winter Recess. Enjoy the break.

St. Jude’s Math-a-Thon:  It is that time of year that St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy participates in St. Jude’s Math-A-Thon program. Many children are helped by the generosity of our school community. We have already raised over $6,000. This year you can do your donations online and order your prizes online and have them delivered to your door or you can send in your donations to Mrs. Foti and she will take care of the paperwork and get the prizes sent to the school. All money is due by Wednesday, March 1st. All students who participate will receive a dress-down ticket to be used in March/April.

You can also easily register online by clicking below. This is a great way to raise money via Social Media.

For all early childhood classes, we do expect, with our current enrollment and our current student siblings who plan to attend next school year, to have limited seats available for these cohorts. We also have exciting news to announce next year, St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy plans on having two full-day Nursery classes that run will from 8 am-2:20 pm each day. We do plan on giving an option for those families that would rather have a 1/2 day program (8 am-11:30 am) within our Nursery program. We expect to offer a minimal discount for those families that choose a 1/2 day option. Tuition for the 2023-2024 school year is scheduled to be announced in Spring 2023.

Any questions about re-registration or new student registration please email us at [email protected]

Social Media Mobile App: Just a reminder that our Mobile APP celebrates its five year anniversary. To download, search for ST. FRANCIS DE SALES ACADEMY in the App Store or Google Play. This is a great way to stay current with school events, your child’s HW, tuition account, and child’s grades.

7th Grade Parent Meeting: We would like to invite all Grade 7 parents to a short yet we feel important meeting about the high school process for next Fall. We have learned many different aspects of the ever-changing process these past few months and we think it is important for all parents to hear before the spring when families begin to finalize their three choices. This meeting will take place virtually Monday, March 6th at 7 pm. We hope you can make it.
